Jeff, owner of What the Grill, did a nice job of consulting with us to help us design our outdoor kitchen. We are extremely pleased with the outcome. So far, I’ve cooked appetizers before dinner (we ate dinner out with friends) and this morning I cooked breakfast outside. The Primo ceramic grill is wonderful.

Serving Oak Island, NC
About forty minutes from our Leland showroom, down Highway 133 across the bridge.
Oak Island brings two constraints together that neither Leland nor Wilmington has to deal with. Salt exposure is severe, and a great many homes sit elevated on pilings with the outdoor living space on a deck rather than on grade. That changes almost everything about a build. Weight matters, gas routing matters, and a heavy masonry island is often simply the wrong answer. We plan around the structure you actually have.

Can you build an outdoor kitchen on an elevated deck?
Often yes, but the design has to respect what the deck can carry. Full masonry islands are usually the wrong choice on an elevated structure. Lighter polymer or stainless cabinetry, freestanding appliances, and careful gas routing are what we normally reach for. If the structure will not take it, we will tell you.
How badly does the salt air affect appliances on the island?
Significantly, and faster than most people expect. Oak Island sits in one of the harsher exposures we work in. Marine-grade cabinetry, higher-grade stainless, and salt-rated hardware are not upsells here, they are what makes the difference between a build that lasts and one that looks tired in two seasons.
